mong Joxer's pastimes are getting duped by swindlers, stumbling amiably into crowds of thugs, and hanging out in brothels. But he's also honest and loyal to a fault, and despite his declarations of cowardice, he's barged into Amazon camps to rescue his beloved and faced off with gods and warlords alike. 1

"Everyone loves to put on a facade about being cool... And Joxer is the epitome of that, trying to be cool when there's no way he's ever gonna be cool. He has no powers. He's a crummy fighter, he's a dummy, he's not particularly good-looking. But he thinks he's all of those things, like, a hundred times over. But beneath all that he's really brave, really courageous, and I think Xena and Gabrielle see that. He's stupid but he's brave, you know? So they keep him around." 2

...He's basically good-hearted,
but he's not terribly smart. 4

All of his life, Joxer has been trying to prove he is as good a warrior as his brother Jett - King of Assassins. When the two meet face to face, Jett starts right in with the rough teasing and humiliation that he has obviously given Joxer since they were babies.6

"Everyone wants to be the older brother," Raimi says of the character, "to torture your little brother. I think Jett sort of falls in that category.5

It is clear that Joxer is afraid of his brother, but equally clear that despite their differences, the two still feel genuine affection for each other. And to Jett's surprise, Joxer has grown up enough to stand up to him.6

Joxer's other brother Jace, lord of the dance:

... more on brother Jace and his son Virgil on the way.

Joxer:
"I was the black sheep. My father was a warlord, my mother was a warlord's wife. My whole family was like that. You can't imagine what it was like. 'Jett sole some horses. Jett torched a village. Jett killed the neighbors.' Who could compete with an overachiever like that?"
